Incorporating elements of his early influences - the warmth and funk of Detroit house combined with the innovation and experimentation of electronica, his releases on the Background Records label have been deep, emotive and personal, aiming to move the mind, body and heart at once. These EP's were suited in equal parts to the club or the lounge. In the past 2 years he has performed live alongside artists such as Andrew Pekler, Sutekh, Machine Drum, Manitoba, Ozy, Funkstorung and Farben. dxu:555 is an audiovisual collaboration between composer/producer james dxu and visual artist vj555. they began began collaborating and formed dxu:555 in 2004 and have been leaving audiences speechless ever since. the audiovisual experience they create is by turns deeply ambient, manicly dancefloor or driven by nightmarish beats and images. tightly produced, melodic, unsettling and entrancing. dxu:555 have also teamed up with 8 ball & mia roberts and done numerous performances under the moniker madball vs dxu:555 feat mia including the storming midnight set at the countdown NYE party. james dxu has also released the stunning track fluid filled lungs featuring mia roberts which is available on the deuce presents jigsaw compilation. dxu:555 have released some live recordings on DVD under the title deuce boots003 : transmissions and have a DVD of their studio work in the pipeline, which has been judged by those who have previewed it as a thing of considerable greatness Brendan Slaven was a founding member of early techno trio Sensory Overload (1993-1998) alongside Jason Hearn (Jase From Outta Space - Ministry of Sound, 909 Records) and Jamie Side. Since leaving Sensory Overload, as ele-mental Slaven has concentrated on a more downbeat, melodic style of music. Patrick Giles, a.k.a HiRO?, is a young contemporary composer who has won multiple national and state level awards for his original mix of electronic and organic music. These include the 2001 WA song contest ‘Electronic’ category (he has also been nominated in the Youth ‘00’, Harmony ‘01’, Political ‘03’) and the inaugural APRA Professional Development Award for his compositions relating to the genre of ‘World’ music. He has worked as a composer and producer both around the country and internationally with many artists, producers and various other organisations. These include Badac Theatre Company (Edinburgh Festival) and international producer Martin Lister (Julia Fordham, Peter Andre). He has composed for a variety of short films, animations, documentaries, web sites and advertising campaigns. Including the hit television shows “The Secret Life of Us” on Network Ten, the ABC’s “Outback Upfront” series, and “Robbin Hoodz” a short film made by S.B.S. In 2003 he took out the WA Screen Awards “Open Craft- Music”award for his work on “Worship”. He has had tracks featured on various local and national releases. Including the “Here comes the brave” remix of the popular “the brave” E.P released by Ambidexter, and recently his track “You Know What Time it is” was featured on the 2003 Kiss My WAMi and Adelaide Fuse Festival(formally M.B.A) CD. In 2003 he began working with eclectic Perth DJ Jo19 and In 2004 Rawbone has evolved into an audiovisual duo playing beats, bleeps and audiovisual samples with synchronised video projections.
